Every fawn needs a Thumper or a Flower. This little white-tail may have found his Flower not in a Disney skunk but in Tulip, our Norwegian forest cat. The gaze exchanged between the young buck and our Viking cat spoke of a wondrous new friendship. Maybe come summer, they will chase butterflies and explore the woods and meadows together with Pee Wee, our snowshoe hare, in the role of Thumper. Maybe Bambi will develop a taste for kibble. You never know what you will see on the shores of Manitoulin Island atop Lake Huron.
Incidentally, you can tell a young male from a doe by its flat head. (A characteristic shared by most male humans, too, a woman I know was heard to mutter.)
