About
I’m a former daily columnist and editor-in-chief of the Toronto Sun, with a newspaper career that has spanned nearly half a century (ouch!) I began as a teen in the circulation department of the Ottawa Journal, schlepping papers around Parliament Hill, including the prime minister’s office. I eventually talked my way into the newsroom – and the Journal quickly folded. At the Calgary Sun, I made it to managing editor before moving to the Big Smoke. A book of my Toronto Sun columns, Bad Girls and Other Perils, was published by Dundurn Press in 2010. In 2017, I retired from the Sun, but still pen occasional columns, plus, most importantly, my annual Variety Village Christmas campaign. My wife Carolyn and I and our Norwegian forest cat Tulip divide our time between Toronto and Manitoulin Island.
North Channel Press is based in Kagawong on Manitoulin Island at the top of Lake Huron. NCP’s raison d’être is to oversee publication of books by me about Manitoulin and beyond, using the creative and technical talents found on and near the island.
