Animals around the cabin are getting ready for winter in their own ways. As reported earlier, Pee Wee, our snowshoe hare, is turning white. The snakes are in brumation, a lethargic state similar to hibernation. Squirrels have cached seeds everywhere. Geese and sandhill cranes have fled south. Chickadees have grown fat on feeder food. The mink has fortified its den among the shore rocks. And Tulip? Well, there’s nothing like a full woodshed, a roaring fire in the stove (and an endless supply of kibble) to make the coming cold days bearable for a Norwegian forest cat.
