Recently, doubts have arisen as to whether our Manitoulin Island wildcat, Tulip, is actually a Norwegian forest cat as claimed. These suspicions are being cast despite the characteristic markings, the pear shaped body and the steely Viking look in her eye. (Her ancestors helped Leif Erikson discover North America.) Admittedly, Tulip was born in an Oakville ravine and it seems unlikely that two homeless Norwegian forest cats would hook up in such a place, though stranger things have happened in Oakville. So, perhaps Tulip is half Viking. It’s a moot point. Or kmute, as they say in Norway. Tulip IDENTIFIES as a Norwegian forest cat and these days that’s all that counts.
